Power Running Boards
Power Running Boards for Trucks
Power running boards give you a full-length step when you need it and stay out of the way when you don't. Open the door and the board extends automatically. Close it and the board tucks up under the rocker panel, clear of mud, snow, curbs, and trail obstacles. Our electric retractable steps are complete kits built for specific truck models and cab styles, so every board fits your truck with no fabrication.
Why Choose Electric Running Boards Over Fixed Steps?
A fixed step bar is always hanging below the cab, which costs you ground clearance and catches debris. Retractable running boards solve that. When retracted they sit tight to the body for a clean factory look and maximum clearance. When deployed they drop low and wide, so getting in and out of a lifted or heavy-duty truck is easier for you, your crew, and your passengers. For contractors climbing in and out dozens of times a day, that adds up.
How Power Steps Work
Each board is driven by motors and linkage arms mounted to your truck's frame. Sensors at each door tell the system when a door opens, and the board on that side deploys in a second or two. When every door on that side closes, the board retracts. There are no switches to flip and nothing to remember.
Finding the Right Fit
Power running boards are vehicle-specific. Choose your kit by matching three things:
- Make and model: Ford F-150 and Super Duty, Chevrolet Silverado and Colorado, GMC Sierra and Canyon, RAM 1500/2500/3500, Toyota Tundra and Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Nissan Titan.
- Model year: bracket mounting points change between generations, so confirm your year range in the product title.
- Cab style: crew cabs typically take the 83.6" or 87.6" boards, while extended and access cabs use the 69.6" or 83.6" length.
Every kit in this collection includes the boards, motors, and vehicle-specific mounting brackets you need for a complete install.
Installation
Most power running board kits bolt to existing holes in the frame with no drilling and connect to your truck's electrical system with the included wiring harness. A handy DIYer can usually finish the job in an afternoon with basic hand tools. Fleets and less hands-on owners may prefer a local installer.
Power Running Boards FAQ
Are power running boards worth it?
If you want easier entry without giving up ground clearance, yes. They give you the step height of a running board with the clearance of no running board at all, which matters most on lifted trucks, HD pickups, and trucks that see job sites or trails.
What's the difference between power steps and running boards?
"Power steps," "electric running boards," "retractable running boards," and "automatic running boards" all describe the same thing: a running board that extends and retracts on its own. Fixed running boards and nerf bars stay in one position.
Do electric running boards work in winter?
Yes. These systems are built for year-round use. In snow and road-salt climates, rinse the linkage periodically and keep the pivot points lubricated for smooth operation.
Will power running boards fit my truck?
Check that your make, model, year range, and cab style match the product title. If you're not sure, contact our team and we'll confirm fitment before you order.
