About Aluminum Tank Industries
Aluminum Tank Industries (ATI) is an independent manufacturer based in Winter Haven, Florida. Every tank is built in-house from premium domestic aluminum by welders with extensive training and hands-on fabrication experience. ATI holds a U.S. Department of Transportation special permit — one of very few tank manufacturers to receive it — which authorizes them to legally manufacture, label, and sell refueling transfer tanks for gasoline, diesel, kerosene, methanol, and aviation fuel. All tanks are fully baffled, pressure-tested, and leak-tested before shipping. ATI also offers custom fabrication for non-standard sizes and configurations.
Why ATI stands out in the tank category
- Broadest fuel coverage. ATI's DOT special permit covers gasoline, diesel, kerosene, methanol, and aviation fuel. Most competitors' transfer tanks are rated for diesel only.
- Both transfer and auxiliary tank lines. ATI is one of a small number of brands that makes both DOT refueling tanks and auxiliary tanks that plumb into the truck's fuel system — for diesel and gasoline applications.
- Severe Series for demanding environments. The .190" HD aluminum construction and internal pump bung support are purpose-built for off-road, high-vibration, and high-pump-weight applications where standard tanks aren't adequate.
- Custom fabrication capability. Need a non-standard size, double wall, DEF tank, or specific configuration? ATI builds to spec. Contact us for custom orders.
- American-made. Manufactured in Florida with domestic materials and in-house welding — not imported or outsourced.
Frequently asked questions
What does ATI's DOT special permit cover?
ATI holds a U.S. Department of Transportation special permit authorizing their transfer tanks for gasoline, diesel, kerosene, methanol, and aviation fuel. This is broader coverage than most competitors — brands like UWS and Better Built are rated for diesel only. The permit applies to ATI's standard refueling tanks, L-shape tanks, rectangle tanks, and Severe Series tanks. Look for the DOT permit number on the tank label to confirm compliance.
What is the difference between ATI's standard and Severe Series tanks?
Standard ATI tanks use .125" diamond plate aluminum — a proven construction for most job site and farm applications. The Severe Series uses .190" HD aluminum, which is 50% thicker, and includes an internal pump bung support designed for pumps over 30 lbs. Severe Series tanks also carry a 5-year warranty vs. 1 year on standard tanks, and include ATI's SpinSecure lockable cap and rollover vent protection. If your tank will be mounted on a work truck that sees off-road conditions, rough terrain, or you're running a heavy commercial pump, the Severe Series is the right choice.
Does ATI make auxiliary tanks for gasoline trucks?
Yes — ATI is one of the few brands to offer DOT-approved auxiliary fuel tanks for gasoline applications, in addition to their diesel auxiliary line. Gasoline auxiliary tanks use a top-mounted fuel pickup tube and 12V inline pump (gravity-feeding gasoline is not legal). These tanks meet Title 49 CFR 393.65. Note that auxiliary tank regulations vary by state — confirm legality in your state before ordering.
How does ATI compare to RDS Manufacturing?
Both are American-made and well-regarded in the commercial truck market. The key differences: ATI is aluminum-only; RDS makes both aluminum and steel tanks (steel is preferred for maximum impact resistance in high-abuse fleet environments). ATI's DOT special permit covers more fuel types including gasoline — RDS transfer tanks are typically rated for diesel. ATI offers the Severe Series for extreme-duty applications; RDS is a strong choice when steel construction or a larger capacity range is the priority.
How does ATI compare to Dee Zee?
Both brands offer aluminum transfer tanks and combo units at competitive price points. ATI's differentiators are the Severe Series heavy-duty option, gasoline auxiliary tank availability, and the DOT special permit covering multiple fuel types. Dee Zee has a stronger large-capacity combo lineup (up to 111 gallons) and also offers auxiliary tanks for diesel. For most standard transfer tank applications either brand performs well — ATI is the stronger choice when fuel type flexibility or severe-duty construction is required.
What L-shape tank configurations does ATI offer?
ATI's L-shape tanks are designed to fit under or alongside a standard crossover-style toolbox, making them the most bed-efficient configuration for trucks that already have a crossover box installed. The tank can be installed in reverse so the fill cap and pump bung are accessible from either side. Available in standard and Severe Series construction. Sizes range from 47–100 gallons.
