The company is privately held and American, and it exists because founder Jerry Gohl thought a spotlight you had to hold shouldn't be the only option. The idea started in 1992, went through engineering and prototyping with product development engineer Al Gebhard, and the first production run — 18 units of the model 5149 — shipped in the summer of 1994. That light is still in the catalog three decades later.

Golight's positioning is narrow on purpose. This isn't a lighting company that also makes spotlights; remote-controlled searchlights are the entire business, and thirty years of iteration on the same problem shows up in the details — high-torque pan and tilt drivetrains, stainless steel mounting hardware, UV and saltwater resistance, and beam distances measured in thousands of feet rather than lumens on a box. Golight Remote Control Spotlights

A remote-controlled spotlight does one thing a fixed work light can't: it puts a high-intensity beam wherever you point it, from inside the cab, without anyone getting out of the truck. For a lineman locating a pole number at 2 a.m., a plow operator reading a mailbox line in a whiteout, or a deputy lighting a treeline, that's the difference between the job and a stop.

All of Golight's current remote lights share the same core architecture: 370° of rotation and 135° of tilt, a high-torque drivetrain that holds aim under vibration, sealed housings rated for UV and saltwater exposure, and a stainless steel bracket on permanent-mount configurations. The differences between series come down to remote type, mounting, and lamp technology.

Golight GT Series

The GT Series is the most configurable light Golight builds, and for most work truck applications it's the default. It's offered with a wireless remote or a hardwired dash remote, in permanent or portable mounting, and in three lamp configurations. Permanent installs use a stainless steel bracket; the portable version uses an industrial-strength magnetic grip, which matters if the light needs to move between trucks or come off the roof for the season. Housings are available in white or black, sealed to IP56 against dust and water, and rated for UV and saltwater exposure.

Golight Stryker ST Series

The Stryker ST is the wireless-only, LED-only line, and it's where Golight put the operational features. Two capabilities set it apart from the GT. First, one remote can run two lights — either independently or in tandem — which is the configuration utility and search-and-rescue crews want when they're running a light on each side of the cab. Second, an On-Command return-to-home function recenters the light to a known position with one button instead of walking it back with the joystick, so the operator isn't hunting for center in the dark.

The ST also moves pan and tilt simultaneously rather than one axis at a time, which makes tracking a moving target or sweeping an arc noticeably smoother, and the remote uses fluorescent buttons so it's usable in a dark cab without a dome light.

Golight GXL LED Fixed Lights

Not every application needs a light that aims. The GXL LED family is Golight's fixed-mount lineup, built to the same durability standard but priced and configured for area illumination rather than directed search.

The GXL LED Performance Series is the high-output option: 7,500 lumens, available in a 15° spot pattern (3,041 ft max beam distance, 215,000 candela) or a 40° flood, with a 9-32V DC input, 50,000-hour LED life expectancy, shock-proof construction, and a quick-adjusting mounting cradle. It carries a 10-year warranty, the longest in the Golight catalog.

The GXL LED Work Light Series runs 16 high-power Cree LEDs in spot, flood, or hybrid beam patterns — 4,500 lumens on flood and hybrid, 1,539 ft max beam distance and 55,000 candela on spot. Input is 9-33V DC, LED life expectancy is 30,000+ hours, and the housing is shock-proof to 40G. Black only, 5-year warranty.

Between the two, the practical split is output versus cost: the Performance Series for primary scene lighting where brightness and service life justify the spend, the Work Light Series for supplemental deck, bed, and rear-facing illumination across a fleet.

Golight/RadioRay Heritage Series

The 5149 is the light Golight started with, still in production. It uses an attached handheld wired remote on a 5-foot control cable with a separate 15-foot power cord, giving 370° rotation and 135° tilt in either halogen or LED spot. Mounting is a permanent mount shoe or a portable magnetic shoe.

There's no wireless pairing, no dual-light control, and no return-to-home — which is exactly the point. For an operator who wants a spotlight that works the moment it's plugged in, with nothing to sync and nothing to lose, the Heritage Series is the simplest thing Golight sells. Halogen delivers 3,113 ft and 225,000 candela; LED delivers 4,839 ft and 544,000 candela. 3-year limited warranty.

Golight Accessories & Replacement Parts

Golight supports its lights well past the current catalog. Parts and accessories are available for the Golight GT, Stryker ST, and Gobee, and also for two discontinued lines — the original Golight/RadioRay series and the previous-generation Stryker. Remotes, mounting shoes and brackets, power cords, control cables, lamp assemblies, and lenses are all serviceable items rather than reasons to replace the whole unit.

Should I choose a Spot or Hybrid beam?

Spot models use an 8° beam and reach 4,839 ft with 544,000 candela — the right choice for long-range identification work like reading pole numbers, addresses, or signage at distance, or scanning a far treeline. Hybrid models widen to 15° and reach 3,593 ft at 300,000 candela, trading some distance for a beam that covers more area at close and medium range. If you're mostly lighting a work area, a ditch line, or the space immediately around the truck, Hybrid is easier to use. If you need to identify something far away, Spot.

Wireless or hardwired remote — which should I get?

Hardwired remotes mount at the dash and never need pairing, batteries, or line of sight, which makes them a practical default for a dedicated fleet truck where the light stays put and the operator changes shift to shift. Wireless remotes are handheld and can be carried out of the vehicle, which matters when the operator is working outside the truck and still needs to redirect the beam. Wireless is available on the GT and is the only option on the Stryker ST; hardwired is a GT configuration.

Can I still get parts for an older Golight or Stryker?

Yes. Golight maintains parts and accessories for the discontinued Golight/RadioRay and previous-generation Stryker series alongside the current GT, Stryker ST, and Gobee lines. Should I buy a remote spotlight or a fixed work light?

They solve different problems, and plenty of trucks run both. A fixed light like the GXL illuminates a defined area — the bed, the deck, the ground behind the truck — and it's the cheaper, simpler install. A remote spotlight puts a much tighter, much brighter beam wherever the operator points it, from inside the cab, at distances a fixed light can't reach: a GT or Stryker ST LED Spot throws 4,839 ft against the GXL Performance Series' 3,041 ft, and it does it on a moving target. If your crews need to read something at distance, search, or track, that's a remote light. If they need to see what's directly around the truck while they work, that's fixed. If you're speccing a truck that does both, the usual answer is a GXL for the work area and a GT or Stryker ST for everything past it.
