About WeatherTech

WeatherTech was founded in 1989 by David MacNeil — then the VP of sales at AMG — out of frustration with the quality of automotive floor mats available in the United States. The company began by importing higher-quality mats from England, but MacNeil was convinced he could build something better domestically. In 2007, he moved production of WeatherTech's entire product line to the United States, opening manufacturing facilities in the suburbs of Chicago. The Bolingbrook, Illinois facilities now employ over 1,300 people and produce over 95% of WeatherTech's product line.

WeatherTech's manufacturing process starts with digital laser scanning of actual vehicle interiors to create precise 3D models for each make, model, and year. Engineers at the product development center in Downers Grove, Illinois use those scans to develop molds using CAD/CAM software, ensuring exact replication of floor contours and cargo surfaces — not approximations from manufacturer spec sheets. WeatherTech uses 100% virgin thermoplastic materials (no recycled content) to maintain structural integrity and dimensional accuracy across every production run.

The company remains 100% privately owned by David MacNeil and has never taken outside investment or gone public. WeatherTech is the title sponsor of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and has run Super Bowl commercials for over a decade — each ad focused on American manufacturing, American workers, and the Bolingbrook facility. All products carry a limited lifetime warranty.

What to Know Before You Buy WeatherTech

Floor liners: front and rear rows are sold separately. When ordering FloorLiners for a crew cab truck or a van, you'll see separate listings for front and rear rows. This is normal — they're engineered independently for each footwell. Order both if you want full floor coverage.

Seat Protectors are for rear bench seats only — not front seats, not bucket seats. They're semi-custom (not vehicle-specific) and won't fit rear bucket seat configurations. If you need front seat protection, TigerTough seat covers are the right product.

MudFlaps: check wheel well liner compatibility. WeatherTech front mud flaps will not fit vehicles equipped with optional OEM wheel well liners. Confirm on the product listing before ordering.

TechLiner vs. BedRug: Both are custom-fit drop-in bed liners. TechLiner uses hard thermoplastic elastomer — a tight, factory-like fit with a soft-touch surface, better for cargo that needs to stay put. BedRug uses polypropylene carpet construction — more cushioning and comfort for working in the bed, with chemical and mildew resistance. See the truck bed liners page for a full comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions — WeatherTech

What is the difference between WeatherTech FloorLiner HP and DigitalFit FloorLiner?

Both are laser-measured, custom-fit floor liners made in the USA with WeatherTech's patented HDTE material. The DigitalFit is the standard tier with deep spill channels. The FloorLiner HP is the higher-performance tier — heavier-gauge thermoplastic, more rigidity, and extended door-sill coverage. For most vans and work trucks, the DigitalFit is sufficient. Choose the HP for maximum coverage and durability in very heavy daily use.

What is the WeatherTech TechLiner?

The TechLiner is WeatherTech's custom-fit drop-in truck bed liner, laser-measured for your exact bed dimensions and made from 100% recyclable TPE that won't crack or warp in extreme temperatures. Soft-touch surface keeps cargo in place. TechLiner tailgate protectors are available separately for the inner tailgate face and top edge.

Do WeatherTech mud flaps require drilling?

No. WeatherTech No-Drill MudFlaps use patented QuickTurn technology that mounts to factory bolt locations in the wheel well — no drilling, no tire removal. Front MudFlaps will not fit models with optional OEM wheel well liners. Confirm on the product listing before ordering.

What is the WeatherTech Under Seat Storage System?

A laser-fit, no-drill storage tray that installs under the rear seat of pickup trucks in minutes. Made from TPE, won't crack in extreme temperatures, with built-in dividers. Available for Ford, Chevrolet/GMC, and RAM trucks across multiple year ranges.

Are WeatherTech products made in the USA?

Yes — over 95% are manufactured in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Founded 1989, manufacturing moved from England to the USA in 2007. 100% privately owned by founder David MacNeil. All products carry a limited lifetime warranty.
