What You Need for your Dee Zee Tailgate Assist RAM 1500 Install
Tools: T-25 Torx bit, plastic pry tool for the plastic rivets, and a rag to protect your tail light. The Dee Zee tailgate assist installs on the driver's side only.
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1: Remove the Plastic Clips and Rivets
Start on the driver's side tailgate area. Remove plastic clips. Pop out the two plastic rivets with a flathead between the center and outer ring.
Step 2: Remove the T-25 Bolts
Remove the two to three bolts securing the tail light assembly.
Step 3: Pull Out the Tail Light
Carefully pull out the tail light and rest it against the truck body. Lay a rag underneath to protect the paint.
Step 4: Locate the Mounting Points
Inside the cavity: a ball stud at the bottom for the lower end of the shock, and a mounting location at the top.
Step 5: Attach the Lower End
Snap the lower end of the Dee Zee tailgate assist onto the ball stud. Compress the shock slightly if needed to seat it.
Step 6: Attach the Upper End
Position the upper end and attach to the upper mounting point.
Step 7: Reinstall the Tail Light
Push the tail light back into position. Start T-25 bolts by hand, then tighten. Reinstall plastic rivets and clips.
Step 8: Test the Tailgate
Open and close. Should lower slowly and smoothly.
