Gasoline Transfer Tanks
Gasoline Transfer Tanks
Gasoline transfer tanks let you haul gas in your truck bed and refuel mowers, generators, compact equipment and small engines right on the job site. Every tank in this collection is rated by its manufacturer for gasoline, with aluminum tanks from ATI and RDS and steel refueling tanks with pumps from Transfer Flow, from 38 to 113 gallons. Why a Gas-Rated Tank Matters
Gasoline is a Class 3 flammable liquid with stricter transport rules than diesel, and many truck bed tanks, including the Weather Guard, UWS and Dee Zee tanks we carry, are rated for diesel only. ATI and Transfer Flow build their refueling tanks under U.S. DOT (PHMSA) special permits that cover gasoline, and RDS rates its aluminum tanks for diesel, gasoline and aviation fuel.
Gasoline Transfer Tanks by Brand
- ATI transfer tanks – American-made diamond plate aluminum in rectangle, wedge, split and double-wall designs from 38 to 110 gallons. Rated for gasoline, diesel, kerosene, methanol and aviation fuel.
- RDS transfer tanks – Treadplate and mill-finish aluminum in rectangle, L-shape and vertical styles from 45 to 113 gallons.
- Transfer Flow transfer tanks – Steel refueling tanks from 40 to 109 gallons that come with a 12V pump, including an under-tool-box model and a 50/50 split tank.
Choosing a Gas Transfer Tank
- Size: Rectangle tanks in the 38–60 gallon range suit short beds and light refueling. Tanks over 90 gallons and L-shape tanks suit long beds and crews running several machines.
- Split tanks: Two-compartment tanks from ATI and Transfer Flow let one truck carry gasoline and diesel separately.
- Pump: Transfer Flow tanks ship with a pump. For ATI and RDS tanks, add a gas-rated pump from our fuel transfer pumps.
Gasoline Transfer Tank FAQs
Can you put gasoline in a transfer tank?
Only in a tank its manufacturer rates for gasoline. Many truck bed tanks are rated for diesel and kerosene only, so check the fuel rating on the product page. Every tank in this collection is rated for gasoline.
Are gasoline transfer tanks DOT approved?
Gasoline is a Class 3 flammable liquid, so non-specification truck bed tanks carry it under U.S. DOT (PHMSA) special permits. ATI and Transfer Flow hold permits that cover gasoline. Those permits limit tanks to 119 gallons, require the hose and nozzle to be locked during transport and the pump power disconnected, and require a copy of the permit in the vehicle.
What is the largest gasoline transfer tank I can carry?
The DOT special permits for gasoline refueling tanks cap capacity at 119 gallons. The largest gas-rated tanks in this collection are 110 to 113 gallons. Larger 150 and 200 gallon tanks are rated for diesel only.
Do gasoline transfer tanks come with a pump?
Transfer Flow refueling tanks include a 12V pump. ATI and RDS tanks are sold as tanks unless the listing says otherwise, so pair them with a pump rated for gasoline.
Can I carry gasoline and diesel in the same tank?
Yes, with a split tank. ATI and Transfer Flow split tanks have two separate compartments, so you can carry gasoline in one and diesel in the other. Never mix fuels in a single compartment.
Can a gasoline transfer tank be used as an auxiliary fuel tank?
No. A transfer tank is built to dispense fuel to equipment and other vehicles, not to plumb into your truck's fuel system. For more driving range, choose one of our auxiliary fuel tanks designed for that purpose.
