Most van shelving buyers get stuck on the same question: how wide and how deep before it starts costing you the room you need to actually work? Go too big and you're squeezing past your own shelving all day. Go too small and you're back to stacking on the floor.

There's a size that solves it for most trades, and this is the one we ship more of than any other.

Weather Guard 42x60x13.5 Adjustable 4 Shelf Unit

This unboxing covers the Weather Guard Adjustable 4 Shelf Unit — 42" W x 60" H x 13.5" D (Model 9374-3-03): everything in the box, the hardware, and the design details that decide whether it works in your van.

Why this size works for so many vans

42 inches wide and 13.5 inches deep is the combination most trades end up with. The standard depth holds bins, cases and parts without crowding your aisle, and the narrower width leaves room for a second unit, a longer run of material, or just space to move.

At 60 inches tall it's a four-shelf unit built for full-size mid roof and high roof vans — in the video it's sitting next to a mid roof Ford Transit. It's taller than it looks in the box, so measure your interior height before ordering.

What comes in the box

  • Four shelves. Three at 13.5" deep, plus a narrower 10.5" top shelf
  • Two end panels, left and right specific, tapered at the top
  • Shelf dividers for both the 13.5" and 10.5" shelves
  • Assembly hardware — serrated-head bolts, one per corner
  • Installation hardware — angle brackets, straight brackets, plus nuts, spacers, washers, nuts and bolts
  • Foot brackets for anchoring to the floor
  • A plus nut tool
  • A one-page sheet with a QR code for full assembly and installation instructions

The taper and the leg cutout

Both end panels taper in at the top. That's not cosmetic — van roofs curve inward toward the center, and the taper lets the unit sit tight to the wall while keeping maximum height clearance. It's also why the top shelf is the narrow 10.5-inch one.

At the bottom, the leg angles in. On this model the cutout sits inboard, toward the center of the van. That's the orientation you want if you haul sheet goods: it lets the unit sit over the wheel well while preserving the full 48 inches between wheel wells, so 4x8 plywood or drywall still slides in.

Details worth knowing

Pressed-in nuts at all four corners. Each shelf has captive nuts, so assembly is a single serrated-head bolt per corner. No washer, no lock washer, no lock nut to fumble with.

Shelves have a lip front and back, so loose items stay put. You can also flip the orientation and mount them flat if you'd rather have a flush surface to build on — though at 13.5 inches this one is a little narrow for a Packout cleat.

Pre-drilled accessory holes. Mounting locations on the end panels for hooks, holders and cargo rings, and on the shelves for drawers, cabinets, shelf doors and back panels. Adding accessories later doesn't mean drilling.

A plus nut tool is in the box. Setting plus nuts turns a sheet metal hole into a threaded anchor point, and it's the one genuinely unusual step in a van install. Weather Guard includes the tool; plenty of brands leave you to source it.

Bright white powder coat, which brightens the back of a dark work van considerably.

Can you install it yourself?

Yes — if you're a trades person, this is well within reach with common hand tools. We film the full assembly and installation of these units so you can see exactly how it goes together before you start.

FAQ

Will this fit a standard roof van?
Unlikely. At 60 inches tall it's built for full-size mid roof and high roof vans. Measure your interior height before ordering.

Should I get 13.5-inch or 16-inch deep shelves?
13.5 inches is the standard depth and keeps more aisle open, which suits most trades. Go 16 inches if you're storing bins, totes or cases that overhang a standard shelf.

Can one person assemble it?
Yes, though a second set of hands makes standing the end panels up easier. Assembly is a single bolt per shelf corner thanks to the pressed-in nuts.

Do I have to drill into my van?
You'll set plus nuts to create threaded anchor points in the sheet metal, which is standard for van shelving. The tool for that is included in the box.

Will it block sheet goods from sliding in?
No. The leg cutout sits inboard, so the unit clears the wheel well while preserving the full 48 inches between wheel wells for 4x8 material.
