Unboxing Weather Guard's 42x60x16 Inch Heavy Duty Adjustable 4 Shelf Unit

Standard van shelving is 13.5 inches deep, and for a lot of trades that's about two inches short. You end up with bins that hang over the front edge, cases that won't sit flat, and stock stacked on the floor because nothing fits the shelf.
Weather Guard's heavy duty line solves that with a deeper shelf — but deeper also changes how the unit ships, how it clears your wheel wells, and how much aisle you have left.
Weather Guard Heavy Duty Adjustable 4 Shelf Unit
This unboxing covers the Weather Guard Heavy Duty Adjustable 4 Shelf Unit — 42" W x 60" H x 16" D (Model 9364-3-03): what's in the box, what the extra depth gets you, and what to expect on delivery.
What "heavy duty" means here
In Weather Guard's lineup, heavy duty means 16 inches deep rather than the standard 13.5. That extra two and a half inches matters more than it sounds — it's the difference between a bin fitting and not fitting, and it gives you real depth for cases, totes and bulkier stock.
At 60 inches tall it's built for full-size mid roof and high roof vans. On a RAM ProMaster you may get away with a standard roof thanks to the lower load floor, but this is really a walk-in van unit. At 42 inches wide it's the narrower of the heavy duty options, so it fits where a 52 or 60-inch run won't.
A note on shipping
This unit weighs 98 lbs, so it ships on a pallet by LTL freight rather than parcel. That means a delivery appointment, slower transit than you're used to with UPS or FedEx, and a pallet to deal with on your end. Worth planning for, especially if you don't have a dock or a forklift.
On the upside, Weather Guard packs it well — shipping straps, cardboard separators between every shelf, and foam blocking in the corners. Shipping steel in a cardboard box is a challenge and things shifting in transit is how they get damaged.
What comes in the box
- Four shelves. Three at 16" deep, plus a 13.5" top shelf that follows the taper of the roof
- Two extra-deep end panels, left and right specific, sized for the 16-inch shelves
- Shelf dividers for both the 16" and 13.5" shelves, dropped into pre-cut slots
- A separate assembly hardware bag — serrated-head bolts, one per corner
- A separate installation hardware bag with brackets, spacers, plus nuts and fasteners
- Foot brackets for anchoring to the van floor
- A disposable plus nut tool
- A one-page sheet with a QR code for the full assembly and installation instructions
The wheel well cutout
Because this is a deeper unit, the end panel legs have a cutout at the bottom. On this model it sits on the inboard side — toward the center of the van rather than the wall.
That's a deliberate and useful choice. It lets the unit sit over the wheel well while keeping the full four feet of width open between the wheel wells, so you can still slide 4x8 sheet goods, plywood or drywall into the back of the van. If you haul sheet material at all, look for that cutout orientation.
Other details
Pressed-in nuts at all four corners of every shelf. One serrated-head bolt per corner, no washers, no lock washers. It cuts your hardware count dramatically compared with brands that make you assemble a nut-and-bolt stack at every joint.
Pre-drilled everywhere. End panels have accessory mounting holes on the face and sides; shelves have holes top and front for drawers, cabinets, shelf doors and back panels. No drilling to add accessories later.
Roughly 2-inch adjustment increments up and down the end panel, so you can raise a shelf to clear an obstruction.
The plus nut tool is included. Installing van equipment means turning sheet metal holes into threaded anchor points with plus nuts. Most people don't own the tool. Weather Guard includes one every time they include plus nuts — a lot of brands don't.
Bright white Armor-Tough finish. Most van equipment is dark gray or black, which makes a cargo area feel like a cave. Weather Guard went the other direction with white, accented in red on their accessories.

Prefer the shallower standard depth? The 42" x 60" x 13.5" version keeps more aisle open.
FAQ
What's the difference between heavy duty and standard Weather Guard shelving?
Depth. Heavy duty units are 16 inches deep; standard units are 13.5. The heavy duty end panels are built wider to carry the deeper shelves.
Why does this ship on a pallet instead of by UPS?
It weighs 98 lbs, which puts it over parcel limits. Expect LTL freight, a delivery appointment, and a pallet to dispose of afterwards.
Will a 16-inch deep unit block my wheel wells?
The end panel legs have a cutout on the inboard side so the unit can sit over the wheel well while preserving the full four feet of width between them — so 4x8 sheet goods still slide in.
Do I need a plus nut tool?
You need one to anchor the unit to the van, and Weather Guard includes a disposable tool in the kit.
Can I mix 16-inch and 13.5-inch shelves on one unit?
The end panels are sized to their shelf depth, so a heavy duty unit takes heavy duty shelves. The top shelf on this unit is already a narrower 13.5 inches to follow the taper of the roof.
