Unboxing the Weather Guard Ford Transit 148" Shelf Mounting Kit
|
Posted in Unboxing Videos
The traditional way to install van shelving goes like this: find or drill holes in the van wall, set plus nuts, bolt brackets to the wall, then bolt the shelf to the brackets. It works, but every shelf position becomes permanent. Move a shelf two inches and you're drilling new holes. The Weather Guard Ford Transit 148 shelf mounting kit fixes that, and in this unboxing we go through everything in the box.
Weather Guard Ford Transit 148 Shelf Mounting Kit
This unboxing covers the Weather Guard Van Shelf Mounting Kit, Ford Transit, 148-in WB (Model 975104-3-01). It's built for 148" wheelbase Transit vans with a mid roof or high roof, and it mounts two shelving units on the driver side and one on the passenger side.
How a channel mounting kit works
Instead of bolting a bracket to the van wall for every shelf, you mount aluminum channels to the wall first. The Transit installation instructions show which holes in the wall to use, so there's no guesswork on placement. Then your shelving attaches to the channels with brackets and slider nuts.
Because the shelf rides on the channel, you can slide it forward or back to fine-tune placement. No new holes, no new plus nuts, and no mess when you rearrange or remove a shelf later.
What comes in the box
- Three extruded aluminum mounting channels. Two at 69" long and one at 52.5" long, each 1-5/8" tall, with pre-existing holes on the back for mounting to the van wall
- Six brackets that attach to the channels, which your shelving brackets then bolt to
- Plus nuts for creating threaded mounting points in the van wall
- Slider nuts that ride inside the channel to secure the brackets
- Spacers and assorted install hardware
- A plus nut install tool
- A one-page sheet with a QR code that links to the latest full-color installation instructions
Details worth knowing
Fewer holes in your van. Once the channels are on the wall, every shelf adjustment happens on the channel, not in your sheet metal. That's the main reason we prefer this route when installing shelving.
Extruded aluminum channels. They work like a unistrut-style track and won't rust over time.
A plus nut tool is included. Plus nuts crimp into a hole in the van wall to create a threaded anchor point. Weather Guard puts the install tool right in the hardware bag, so you don't have to source one separately.
Built-in stability. Per Weather Guard, the aluminum rail spreads the load evenly, and a four-way stop minimizes side-to-side and front-to-back shelf movement while you drive.
No lower floor rail. The kit mounts high on the wall, which leaves room under the shelves for bulkier gear.
Mounting something other than Weather Guard shelving? You'll need a slider bolt or slider nut at least 1" wide to clamp inside the channel.
Can you install it yourself?
Yes. Everything you need to mount the channels and attach the brackets is in the kit, and the instructions call out the exact Transit wall holes to use. We're installing this system in a follow-up video, so you can watch the full process before you start.

FAQ
Will this fit a low roof Transit?
No. This kit is for 148" wheelbase Transits with a mid roof or high roof. Weather Guard makes a separate kit for the low roof 148" WB.
How many shelving units does it support?
It mounts two shelving units on the driver side and one on the passenger side.
Do I have to drill into my van?
The instructions show which existing holes in the Transit wall to use for the channels, and you'll set plus nuts in those holes. The plus nut tool is included. After that, shelf adjustments happen on the channel with no new holes.
Can I move my shelves after they're installed?
Yes. Shelves slide forward or back along the channels, so you can reposition them without drilling.
Can I mount non-Weather Guard equipment to the channels?
You can, as long as you use a slider bolt or slider nut at least 1" wide so it clamps inside the channel.
