Refrigerant tanks rolling around the cargo floor are a hazard to the tanks, the van, and you. The Weather Guard refrigerant tank rack gives every cylinder a dedicated spot, strapped upright and off the floor, and it shows up ready to install. In this unboxing we open the box and go through everything inside.

Weather Guard Refrigerant Tank Rack: What It Is

This unboxing covers the Weather Guard 3-Tier Refrigerant Tank Rack (Model 9863-3-01). It stands 40" tall with three tiers, and it's a popular accessory in the HVAC/R trades or for anyone who needs to carry cylinders in a work van.

How it ships

The box comes wrapped in shipping straps, which surprised us since this rack isn't heavy. Inside, cardboard pieces keep the rack from shifting, and the whole unit sits in a plastic bag to prevent scratches, scuffs, and dents in transit. The hardware kit rides in the bottom of the box.

What comes in the box

  • The tank rack, fully assembled. All components are welded on, so there's nothing to build
  • Built-in straps at each tier to hold tanks in place
  • Wall brackets for securing the rack to the side of the van
  • 90° angle brackets
  • Plus nuts for creating threaded mounting points
  • A plus nut install tool
  • Floor and wall mounting hardware
  • A printed installation guide with full instructions, not just a QR code

First impressions

The big win is that there's no assembly. Pull it out of the bag and it's ready to mount. The welded construction feels solid, and the Brite White ARMOR TUF powder coat with red accents matches Weather Guard shelving, partitions, and Red Zone accessories, so it looks like part of the system rather than an add-on.

Tier measurements

We measured the openings so you can check your tanks before ordering. These are our measurements from the video, not factory specs:

  • Bottom tier: about 13" between the bottom and the middle rung
  • Middle and top tiers: about 10.5" each
  • Inside width: about 13" on every tier
  • Overall height: 40"

Each tier also has an angled front lip that sits about 10" from the front face, which helps hold the tank in place. It doesn't limit tank length.

Mounting options

The rack mounts to the van floor and attaches to the wall with the included brackets. A mounting tab on top lets you install it in either orientation, so you can set it up for access from the rear doors or turn it to suit your layout.

Plus nuts go into existing holes in the van, or into holes you drill, to give your bolts a secure threaded anchor without reaching behind the sheet metal. Weather Guard includes the install tool any time a product uses plus nuts.

Placement tip: mount it near the rear or side door. You won't have to lift and carry tanks deep into the van, and loading and unloading on the job gets a lot easier.

Backed by Weather Guard

Weather Guard backs its products with a lifetime warranty, so you're covered for the long haul if something fails.

FAQ

Does the tank rack need assembly?
No. It ships fully assembled with welded components. You only need to mount it in the van.

What size tanks fit?
In our measurements, the bottom tier has about 13" of opening and the two upper tiers about 10.5" each, with about 13" of inside width. Measure your tanks against those numbers before you order.

Is mounting hardware included?
Yes. The kit includes wall brackets, angle brackets, plus nuts, the plus nut install tool, and the hardware to mount the rack to the floor and the wall.

Where should I mount it in the van?
Near the rear or side door works best. Tanks are easier to load and unload, and you won't have to carry them deep into the van.

Does it match Weather Guard shelving?
Yes. It has the same Brite White ARMOR TUF powder coat as Weather Guard shelving and partitions, with red accents like the Red Zone accessories.
