What the Weather Guard 60-Inch Shelf Back Panel Does

The Weather Guard 60-inch shelf back panel mounts to the back of a 60-inch wide Weather Guard shelving section and does two things. First, it prevents items from falling out the back of the shelf - a real issue if your van takes a hard stop on a job site and you have small parts or tools sitting near the back edge of an open shelf. Second, it is the other half of creating a fully enclosed, lockable compartment: pair this back panel with a matching 60-inch shelf door on the front and you have a fully covered cavity that locks. Without the Weather Guard 60-inch shelf back panel, the front door only closes the front while the back remains open.

What's in the Box

The panel is a single piece of steel in Weather Guard's brite white powder coat finish, which matches the shelving units exactly. There is a slight bend built into the panel for structural rigidity across its width. The panel measures 14 and 1/2 inches tall, which provides coverage for a standard 12-inch shelf cavity with some overlap on each side. Pre-drilled holes line up with existing holes on the Weather Guard shelving frame, so no additional drilling is required. Hardware - bolts, nuts, and washers - is included underneath one of the folded edges.

Creating a Fully Enclosed Compartment

If your goal is a lockable storage compartment within your van shelving, here is what you need:

  • The Weather Guard 60-inch shelf back panel (this product) for the rear of the shelf section
  • A matching 60-inch shelf door for the front
  • Both items must match the width of the shelf section you are working with

The back panel covers the rear, the door covers the front, and the shelf unit's sides close off the left and right. The result is a fully enclosed space that locks from the front. The shelf door is sold separately and sized to match each available shelving width.

Sizing

Back panels are ordered by the width of your shelf section. Weather Guard makes them in all their standard shelving widths:

  • 42 inches - for 42-inch wide shelving
  • 52 inches - for 52-inch wide shelving
  • 60 inches - for 60-inch wide shelving (this video)

The panel carries Weather Guard's lifetime warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to drill new holes to install this?

No. The holes on the Weather Guard 60-inch shelf back panel align with existing holes on the shelving unit.

Can I use just the back panel without a door to fully enclose the shelf?

The back panel prevents items from falling out the rear, but the front of the shelf remains open without a door. To create a fully enclosed and lockable compartment, you need both the back panel and the matching shelf door.

What is the height of the back panel?

This version measures 14 and 1/2 inches tall, covering the standard 12-inch shelf depth with some overlap.

Is this the same product as the 52-inch and 42-inch back panels, just wider?

Yes - the same product line, just sized for 60-inch wide shelf sections. The design and installation process are identical across all widths.
